Race to the bottom
When I looked at the Pirates' roster as they were in the midst of their rebuilding fire sale, I kept telling people that they'd have a serious chance to catch the Nationals for the worst record in baseball.I got mostly a lukewarm response to this prognostication. But in fact, the Bucs are closing -- fast. They're now just a half game "behind" the Royals, and 4 1/2 games "behind" the Nats for the #1 pick. Just a few weeks ago they were closer to 11 or 12 games behind.
So... could Bryce Harper be a Pirate? A quick Google search shows Bleacher Report has begun monitoring the race for the #1 pick today too...
Can they do it? I say there's a 50-50 chance.
