My first gear-grinding since 2008
What is it with this trend in recent years for news reports to pretend like things were a long time ago, that really weren't?Example: I kept hearing over and over again last weekend that the U.S. won the gold medal in basketball "for the first time since 2000!"
That's ONE FREAKIN' FAILURE in between gold medals.
Isn't it more accurate to say "after a disappointing stumble in 2004." Or "for the fifth time in six Olympic games?"
This is happening a lot, I tell you, and it's idiotic.
