Clooney nails it, and other Oscar observations
(Out of town since Wednesday... will blog on trip later).
Here are a few thoughts on the Oscars -- I actually watched them, even though I have yet to see any of the major nominated movies.
First off...What a comment by Clooney on Hollywood. Loved it.
In case you missed it:

And finally, I would say that, you know, we are a little bit out of touch in Hollywood every once in a while. I think it's probably a good thing. We're the ones who talk about AIDS when it was just being whispered, and we talked about civil rights when it wasn't really popular. And we, you know, we bring up subjects. This Academy, this group of people gave Hattie McDaniel an Oscar in 1939 when blacks were still sitting in the backs of theaters. I'm proud to be a part of this Academy, proud to be part of this community, and proud to be out of touch.Other tidbits:
- I really had no idea what Crash was. Or that every actor on Earth seemingly had a role in it. It's time I started paying attention to movies again. I have my work cut out for me at Blockbuster.
- I have read zero reviews of Jon Stewart's performance so far, but I thought he was terrific. Loved the Daily Show touches, like the Colbert faux campaign ads. I say, make Jon a regular host. Better than the old guard. Better than C-Rock.
- Huzzah for Wallace & Gromit getting a much-deserved Animated Film Oscar.
- What was up with Lauren Bacall? Did the Prompter go out, or did she get confused? Anyone know what I'm talking about?
- Conservatives must be thrilled seeing a hip-hop group win an Oscar. Tee hee.
- More as I think of them. Or not.
