Thursday "Huzzahs!"

* Huzzah to Tucker Carlson for showing once again that "Republican" doesn't mean "pathetic neocon knee-jerk GOP defender." He slams Grover Norquist, Ralph Reed and the other GOP stalwarts tied to corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who's at the center of their latest scandal:

Why were supposedly honest ideological conservatives like Sheldon and Reed and anti-tax activist Grover Norquist involved with Jack Abramoff in the first place?.....

Weirdos and charlatans and self-interested hacks like Lou Sheldon and Grover Norquist have long discredited the conservative ideas they purport to represent. Their political allies in Washington and Congress may be tempted to defend them. I hope they don't. We'll all be better off when they're gone.
In the post right below that one, Tucker expresses a moderate's concerns about the domestic spying flap.

Shouldn't be long before Tucker's labeled a "liberal" by the bloggers.

* Huzzah to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences or whatever they're called, for choosing Jon Stewart to host the Oscars. I'll be watching, though I might have to actually see a movie or two if I'm going to sit through that long-ass telecast and know what they're talking about.

* Huzzah to Texas for knocking off USC for the national title. And shame on me for falling asleep when USC went ahead 38-26 late in the 4th quarter. Let's hope this is the most meaningful victory George W. Bush can cheer about in 2006.

* Huzzah to K.C. Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil for a great career -- if indeed he stays retired this time. He was always one of my favorites. He wasn't afraid to wear his emotions on his sleeve, but he wasn't a pushover. He seemed to touch his players more (not in the dirty way) than any coach I've ever seen, and he's always seemed like a truly remarkable individual.
