Don't mess with Pennsylvania's "Georgette W. Bush"

Governor Ed Rendell (D-PA) is denying rumors that he's looking to dump Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll from the ticket when he runs for re-election in 2006. He says the two are close, and he has no plans to make a change.

The denials came after an Allentown newspaper ran a story claiming there might be a change, and citing some odd misstatements Knoll has made -- including referring to Gov. Rendell as "Governor Edward G. Robinson" (an actor who starred in gangster movies). She also apparently said the following while presiding over the Senate:

* "The church recognizes Senator Brightbill"
* "The bill will pass without almonds"

That second one is hilarious and almost made me spit my Dr. Pepper onto the keyboard. Anyway....Rendell's response to the misstatements was, "If that was the new criteria for disqualifying you from public office, we'd have a new President of the United States."

Indeed.
