The headline that was barely there

Yesterday was the bloodiest day in Iraq for American troops since April -- eight marines lost their lives and two dozen others were killed as Fallujah continues to be a huge mess. But it was hard to even hear about this amidst all the horserace coverage. The last minute spinning, stumping, and polling is, of course, far more important.

If all the "liberal conspirators" were looking for single event to play up that would remind people of Bush's failure to plan before putting our troops in harm's way....wouldn't that have been it?
