The right night for my first Pirate game of the year

We got free tickets to the Pirate game a week ago Saturday -- and we saw perhaps the best game of the year.

Before a shockingly enthusiastic crowd of 27,000, Andrew McCutchen hit three home runs and came to bat in the 8th inning with a chance for a fourth. It was the first time I'd ever been present to witness a player even get a chance at a four-homer game.

Then, after the game, there was a free concert by country star Jo Dee Messina that I didn't even realize was happening that night.

At one point, Messina was chatting up the crowd between songs, and mentioned that she'd been "lucky enough to hang out with the owner of the Pirates." That prompted loud, widespread booing. Jo Dee was obviously surprised, and just sort of moved on, saying she didn't want to "get in the middle of any political issues."

Heh.

Incidentally, this is the last game the Pirates won. They've dropped eight in a row since.
