Month of Living Vegetarianally: Day 16
This experiment is doing some very good things.
As I expected, the biggest (only?) problem area is lunch at work, when I frequently have stuff like chicken noodle soup, a tuna sandwich from the corner store, Subway chicken sandwich, etc. But I have had no powerful cravings. Except for last Sunday when I was at my parents' house for fajitas. I was particularly hungry and had to resist putting the hot-off-the-grill chicken into said fajitas -- which then became extremely dull and unsatisfying. That was pretty painful.
Mostly, though, it's making me more aware of my eating habits and opening my eyes to new options:

I was particularly hungry and had to resist putting the hot-off-the-grill chicken into said fajitas -- which then became extremely dull and unsatisfying. That was pretty painful.
Mostly, though, it's making me more aware of my eating habits and opening my eyes to new options:
- My little round-the-corner lunch spot has a great vegetarian sandwich I'd never considered -- or even noticed -- before.
- When we order from our favorite Tex-Mex joint, I almost always get a chicken enchilada or burrito. Habit, mostly. This time I got what Emily gets: the chick pea chili burrito. Turns out I actually prefer it, and will make it my new staple.
- I thought it would be difficult to find stuff to get at PNC Park, aside from fries and nachos. But I never noticed that they have a veggie burger (not too bad) and pierogies (quite good!).
- I am aware of -- but have yet to try -- the veggie patty that most Subway locations have. It kind of looks like someone crushed up a 64-pack of Crayola crayons and pounded it into a flat, rectangular form. Which seems strange. But I will try it someday.
