The Doctor vs. The Mister
So you know that Dr. Pepper knock-off, Mr. Pibb? I was at a DC eatery on Sunday and I had a "Pibb Xtra." There was no explanation as to what made it "Xtra" (more caffeine?) nor did they explain why they stripped Pibb of his more formal title.
I theorized that perhaps it's because no one's going to drink Mr. Pibb, when the market leader is a Dr. I mean, Pepper clearly went to med school or got his Ph.D. So I guess they scrapped the Mr. and went with the Xtra to make it seem more X-treme. I think they'd be better off trying to one-up the Doc. Perhaps Judge Pibb. President Pibb. Chancellor Pibb.
